ACER provides results for the Written Selection Test only, on behalf of Fire Rescue Victoria.
FRV will contact applicants directly if they are successful in progressing to the next stage of the recruitment process.
You must achieve the minimum standard for all four components of the assessment in order to progress your application with FRV.
Scores for each component are mapped against the Australian Core Skills Framework, which is the Australian Standard for literacy and numeracy.
Your scores will be presented as ‘scale scores’ rather than as a percentage. The benchmark score will be presented on your results certificate, and you must score higher than the minimum score in order to progress.
For WST, rigorous, best-practice psychometric techniques are used to transform test raw scores (the number of questions an applicant has answered correctly) and place them on a measurement scale.
The transformed scores are called scaled scores. Compared to using raw scores, this approach has a number of benefits. In particular, it is a vital equity measure that allows applicants who take different versions of a test to be compared fairly.
Multiple test forms are used for the WST. Although test developers follow defined parameters, so that test versions are broadly comparable in difficulty, some differences are unavoidable. Thus, raw scores may not reflect test difficulty as well as the applicant's ability. For example, suppose applicant A and B took different versions of the same test. If B has a higher raw score, is B the stronger applicant, or was A’s test harder? Which applicant has the better performance if they both scored the same?
The analysis of WST results accounts for differences in test difficulty and places all test versions on a single scale. This ensures that all scores are directly comparable: the higher the score, the better the performance, regardless of which test version was taken.
If you are successful at meeting the minimum standards, you will receive a 'Standard Met' result.
Congratulations! You will be contacted by FRV Recruitment and advised about your next step. In the meantime, visit the FRV Recruiting website for more information on the recruitment process.
If you are unsuccessful at meeting the minimum standard, you will receive a 'Standard Not Met' result.
Once you have successfully completed all components, your results remain valid for three years from the date of assessment. This means that if you do not complete your recruitment or are not selected to proceed with FRV, you can reapply within three years and potentially bypass the WST by using your existing results.
If it is decided that you demonstrated misconduct during your WST, ACER may withhold your results.
If you failed to pay a late reschedule fee for changing your date within 10 business days of the test booking, your results will be withheld until payment is completed.

ACER and FRV will not enter into appeals about results.
Should you wish to query a particular question on the day of the test, you should alert the supervisor to your concern and submit an incident report before you leave the test centre or proctored sitting.
You may email ACER at frv@acer.org immediately after your test with an explanation of the issue. The query will be reviewed by the ACER FRV Office, along with the notes from the supervisor, and you will be notified of the outcome.
Similarly, any complaints relating to the test venue or physical discomfort suffered should be reported to the supervisor on the day of the assessment.
It is not possible to give special consideration for impaired performance on the day of the assessment caused by illness or other unexpected personal situations.
