You must be present at your assessment no later than the reporting time listed on your Admission Ticket. We suggest arriving approximately 15 minutes beforehand. Your test will begin once the registration process is completed.
Dress in tidy, casual clothing and carefully check the address and reporting time on your printed Admission Ticket. A full security inspection will take place before you are permitted to enter.
Anyone who arrives late cannot be admitted after the assessment has started.
your Admission Ticket
current driver's license or current passport
pen or pencil
water bottle (clear and transparent, with no label attached)
Acceptable identification is as follows:
For venue-based testing, you must show your identification and your admission ticket to supervisors at the test centre.
For remote-proctored testing, you will be required to upload a copy of your photo ID to the ACER portal at the time of booking. This will be used to confirm your identity. Should the proctor have any concerns about confirming your likeness, you may be required to present ID on the day in order to progress.
If for any reason you cannot provide appropriate photo identification (for example, you lost your wallet), you must contact the ACER FRV Office no later than 5 business days before your allocated assessment time. If you do not do this, you will not be premitted to take your test or receive results.
Valuables such as wallets, keys and mobile phones may be placed under your desk during the test centre sittings. Mobile phones must be switched off before entering the test centre and placed in your bag or face up under your desk. They cannot be worn on your body and you are not permitted to access them during testing time.
There will be limited space to store your bags and you will not be allowed to access your bags until the break.
The test takes approximately 2 hours and 5 minutes of active exam time. Additional time is also given for registration, instructions and set up between test components. You should allow up to 2 hour and 45 minutes in total.
You may be permitted to use the bathroom during the assessment session between test components, but this will not be permitted in the last 10 minutes of any component so as not to disturb others. No additional time will be granted for bathroom breaks.
If you have a question about the assessment, direct your queries to the supervisor before leaving the venue. These will be recorded in writing and will be reviewed by the ACER FRV Office. Similarly, any complaints relating to the exam venue or physical discomfort suffered should be reported immediately to the supervisor on the exam day so the issue can be addressed at the time and without delay. ACER will not consider any complaints raised after the results have been released.
The test comprises 4 components administered under secure exam conditions. Once you have finished the 4 components the supervising team will facilitate your safe dismissal from the venue. Early departures are not permitted and attempts to leave early may affect your results. Once you have left the test centre, you cannot re-enter and continue the test.
Dictionaries, personal calculators or electronic equipment of any kind are not permitted during the assessments.
Mobile phones, pagers, calculators, stopwatches, audio or recording devices (including MP3 players) of any kind are not permitted.
Glasses with recording/sound capacity, smart watches and electronic devices are not permitted.
Scrap paper, notes, food, pencil cases, rulers or highlighters are not allowed in the assessment room.
Personal belongings must be kept in your bag and stored in the assessment room or as directed by the assessment supervisors at the venue.
The Written Selection Test is a high stakes test. Therefore ACER, in conjunction with Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV), has established security procedures that are strictly enforced at all times. It is important that you understand the consequences of breaches of test security or misconduct.
What is considered misconduct?
Misconduct (whether occurring prior to, during or after the exam session) means any unacceptable conduct or any conduct that might result in unfairness or inaccurate results. Examples of misconduct include, but are not limited to the following:
Consequences for misconduct
You are advised that except as expressly provided at law, there is no right to challenge, appeal or seek review of any determination by ACER that misconduct has occurred or in relation to any consequences imposed by ACER for any misconduct. You should also be aware that your misconduct might also give rise to liability on your part to third parties.
ACER and Fire Rescue Victoria reserve the right to take legal action and claim any remedies available to them at law in respect of any incident of misconduct or where your conduct (whether or not it constitutes 'misconduct') infringes any of their rights.
